Des Fuller is not just any ordinary customer, he is a man with many great life experiences behind him.
Des first emailed us here at S-6100 Aqua Vision, Krabi, Thailand about one month ago asking about doing the Padi Open Water diver course with us, we sent Des all the information and he chose to do the e-Learning option before coming to see us.
When Des arrived he had completed his e-Learning and breezed through the pool and Open Water dives and it wasn’t till after the course I learned about his diving past.
Des joined the British Royal Navy when he was fifteen years old (1973) and carried out his first dive in June 1975 when qualifying to become a ships diver. He then went on to become a Clearance Diver in 1980 and for 17 years of this service he was involved with underwater mines and explosives, lost aircraft and weapon’s recovery. He also did a 27 ½ day test dive in a hyperbaric chamber down to 360 metres, 5 days to descend, 8 days at 360 metres and over two weeks to ascend and decompress. Des completed 24 years’ service in the Royal Navy.
Since leaving the Navy Des has worked as a Commercial diver and currently lives in Laos clearing unexploded bombs on land for the various NGO’s and commercial companies working there. He has completed many diving courses and has done over 1,000 dives so far.
In the 3 weeks he has been here Des has completed OW, AOW, EANX, Deep Specialty, Equipment Specialist, Search & Recovery Specialty, Oxygen Provider Specialty, Sidemount Diver Specialty and he is coming back in December to complete Rescue, Digital Underwater Photography Specialty, Self Reliant Diver Specialty and Dive Master courses!
Welcome to the Padi family Des and thanks for diving with us here at Aqua-Vision, we look forward to seeing you again in December!
